01 About this neighborhood

What East Pattaya / Darkside is for.

East Pattaya — locally called "Darkside" because it's east of the railway line — is the inland expat residential half of the city. Mabprachan Lake is the geographic center; the surrounding villages (Pong, Nong Prue, Huai Yai) are where many long-term foreign residents live because rent and houses are 30-50% cheaper than the beach side.

Sport-wise, East Pattaya punches above its weight. Several of the best-respected serious Muay Thai gyms are here (Sanit Sport Club, Kombat Group at Huai Yai). Most of the elite golf courses (Phoenix Gold, Treasure Hill, Burapha) are in the East Pattaya / Sriracha border region. And there's less tourist friction — gyms here cater to people who actually live in Pattaya.

How to get there.

Sukhumvit-Pattaya highway is the main north-south spine; Tepprasit Road is the major east-west connection from beach to inland. Mabprachan Lake circle road loops around the eastern center. A car or scooter is much more practical than baht-bus.
